Motion Tracking and Digital Art

Today the use of art has become maximum thanks to the internet and even the ways of making it have increased dramatically, integrating new materials, new technologies, but above all, new visions of it!

Felix Deimann the author of the video that we will see below, he wanted to pay homage to some of the biggest Olympic athletes of all time, doing a Motion Graphic work, based on the footage of their repertoire, looking for a harmony between abstract forms and movement!

Motion Tracking and Rotoscoping!

To get this result he took these contributions, and on them he performed some operations called “Motion Tracking” and “Rotoscoping”!

Motion Tracking consists in a digital analysis of the video content, which through the points called “Markers” analyzes and records everything that is in motion, thus saving and positioning the dynamics of movements in 3D space based on the calculation of the camera framing, which will also be recreated in 3D!

Rotoscoping is instead a “contouring” technique that is used to move things! That is, as you would do with Photoshop cutting a figure, but animating and modifying the mask, or the masks, frame by frame!

These techniques are today used to make 3D reconstructions to be placed in cinematic scenes, insert characters and fantasy creatures and make them interact with the man, but also most of the modern videogames are more and more realistic, thanks to these techniques.

You can do this type of work now with the most popular software: Adobe After Effects , Nuke , Motion , C4D , Maya , Blender , just to name a few.

The only limit remains the imagination and the ability to use the aforementioned software beyond the knowledge necessary to operate in this sense.

So from both techniques you will clearly get the necessary data to “hook” abstract forms, but also not, and give him that grace and delicacy of movement that we can admire in the video in question!

10 reasons why you can not do without a graphic designer

Hi pirates!

This article was written to be sent to your customers. I will not elaborate on the premises (maybe I’ll bore them) and I’ll immediately write down the reasons why graphic designers are important in the shortest and easiest way possible.

1- The graphic designer is the only one who can create your image

There is no other figure capable of doing the same. Or better: they can try all but in most cases nobody will be able to help you because you have to have specific skills, the result of study, work and experience. Here we do not talk about beauty, we talk about functional that is another thing and the graphic designer knows what he does.

2- Wrong communication hazard!

Addressing some improvised “designer” is not just wrong, it’s dangerous! At best you will not reach your audience, at worst you will lose the customers you had . Instead spread the quality of your services you will end up selling a little and close shop, sooner or later. Here the scratch is all there.

3- You do not know how to use the programs, he is … and not only

You can try but if you take care of your business you can not waste time doing a job that you can not do: time is money and first you will start to communicate well and first you will see the results.

Learning to use the programs is possible. Of course, to be able to handle them sufficiently, it takes time and derriere squared but everyone, with constancy, can learn. The fact is that doing graphic design does not mean knowing how to use graphics programs , that is just the tip of the iceberg. So much effort , so much sweat, so much money invested to send everything to the air with a similar lightness ? 5- The only way to reach new customers is to communicate with them: the designer knows how to do it

What is the point of having a top product, the best services or the most important collaborations if you can not communicate it to people? Which does not mean “telling it around” but it means “making as many things as possible as possible” (repetition is desired). Capture the attention, give the first information very short but fitting and then push future customers to inquire about other channels or in any case in the most appropriate way to their business choices. Because today people are informed and are full of advertising stimuli: how to expect to reach an increasingly complex public without a good communication?

6- The first contact with the customer takes place via communication

Design made bad = poor product. Too heavy as a comparison? Absolutely not! The lack of attention to design is a symptom of lack of attention to the customer, a symptom of poor product. Would you consider it if you saw a bad advertisement? Try to put yourself in the shoes of someone who does not know you and who, perhaps, does not even have primary needs of your product.

7- He sees things that you can not see

There are some things that non-professionals can not see. We are not talking about magic or chemtrails, but with measures that are used to activate the correct perception of the graphic design by future customers. The graphics, however, should not be evaluated with respect to beauty or ugliness (so everyone fancies, as Esther Perel would say) but with respect to functionality. 10- Pay to multiply the gain

Ask a designer who cares about the communication will enhance the sale: it will be more than paid for the expense!

Many believe it is a waste of time, others think that communication can wait. Are we kidding? Why wait to let people know what they sell? What is this diabolical choice? Hurry up, who arrives first (and better) can win the battle with the competitors … the others remain behind!

10 bis – The designer teaches you to have taste: listen to what he recommends

It is in your interest to succeed in enhancing your communication. Whether it is an agency or a freelancer, the person who takes care of the communication will advise you for the best and the relationship will eventually improve your point of view: slowly you will begin to recognize the rules to follow and you will finish , together, to collaborate and achieve increasingly important results.

What is an ePub?

The ePub format is currently the standard format used for the publication of digital books : in fact, ePub is the abbreviation of “electronic publication” or “electronic publication”.

An ePub is a ZIP file that is divided into three sections that interact, forming what is a digital book . What are these 3 sections? Here they are:

Mimetype , which is essentially a text file that informs the operating system of how the ebook is formatted;

META-INF , is the folder that contains the XML file, the metadata of the book that is information such as title, author, and everything that can be useful for the research and identification of the book.

OEBPS , is the folder in which the contents of the ePub reside and therefore of the book . It consists of subfolders, each of which works to define and construct the contents of the book.

These subfolders include the one that contains only the images in the book.

What are the differences between ePub and PDF?

Both the ePub format and the PDF format have their pros and cons.

PDF is currently the most widely used electronic document format in the world , and you can create a PDF file with various software beyond Adobe. Microsoft Word is an example. This format keeps the design of our layout, as for printing.

Books in ePub format instead adapt to the device on which you are reading , the characters can be changed, shrunk or enlarged. It also has metadata. Obviously, the ePub is much nicer, and allows you to interact with the PDF you’ll never have.

But let’s go now, to understand the differences between fluid layout and fixed layout.

Fluid layout

the fluid layout (liquid layout) is so called because the content of the book is adapted to the device , and therefore it is always changeable, as for a responsive website .

With this, therefore, you will have a thousand thousand layouts, one per device. You can not even foresee one because the layouts can not be created depending on the device that will receive them. Going deep into the question we can declare that the layout does not exist in the fluid layout. Just for words but we understood each other. I think.

If, on the other hand, you try to view a PDF book from a smartphone, the same thing happens that happens in a non-responsive site: continuous zoommation and premature blindness.

Fixed Layout

The fixed layout, (fixed layout), differently from the fluid one (uh, but really?). It is advisable when, for example, our intention is to make a photo album.

But here arises a question: why choose a fixed layout if with fluid we have less problems in viewing and interaction with the user? Simple: in addition to having, as we have already said, full control of the design we can add animations and interactive elements that, for example, are perfect on the iPad.

For the user to be able to interact gives greater satisfaction and in any case you have the possibility to reach different audiences in different circumstances.

The elements that liven up and make the experience more interesting and satisfying, especially for an audience that is not used to reading and must be amazed: think of books for the little ones or the fishing or sewing course.

We can not say that a fixed layout is better than a fluid one or vice versa: essentially everyone serves a specific purpose.

Dynamic and interactive elements in PDFs

As we have already said, with InDesign we can insert dynamic and interactive elements into PDF documents, such as links to external web pages, but it is also possible to integrate audio / video files.

 

The Bookmark

It is one of the most useful functions because it allows a quick navigation inside the file, especially when the number is high. To create a bookmark:

1- Click on the Window menu> Interactivity> Bookmarks ; at this point the panel related to the function will be available;

2- Click on bookmark to insert a new one;

3-To set the point at which to insert the Bookmark, click on the text with the “Text” cursor. Alternatively, select all the text you are interested in.

REMEMBER that this will also become the bookmark label by default.

4- Finally click on “Create new bookmark” in the Bookmarks panel.

 

Movies or sound clips

1- Click on the File> Insert menu and select the document;

2- to set the position of the audio or video file, simply click on the point in the PDF where the clip should appear.

With this option it is also possible to change the dimensions that this file will occupy on the page: the file frame is adaptable. We must do, but be very careful not to extend the frame too far out of the page margins.

The software provides a function that allows you to preview the document with the changes: just go to Window> Interactivity> Media. Here you can also change document properties based on actual needs.

 

Hyperlinks in the PDF

To do this you must:

1- select the text or item;

2- right click and choose the Hyperlinks> New hyperlink;

3- Enter the address in the “URL” field and click OK.

4- As a last step, export the PDF as “Adobe PDF (interactive)”. At this point all the elements of the PDF document will be interactive.

Let’s start here a path in which we will delve into some aspects of this fantastic software to get prepared and super-ready in Rome on 1-2 December. Who will have the good fortune to be of ours, will be able to attend the two days of Indesign Warriors !

We’ll find out everything you can do with InDesign: many people do not know the power of this software and ignore all the nineteen hundred fifty-three functions. No, well, all these are not, but it’s really absurd not to know them because they help in work and make life easier.

As you know, the 2019 version of the Creative Cloud came out on October 15th. Now we will discover together what are the news and improvements that should make the job easier.

Spacing between paragraph styles
It is now easier to insert a spacing between consecutive paragraphs that have the same style. In practice you can better analyze if the spacing before and spacing after the settings affect the space between the paragraphs of the same style.

An option in the Styles dialog box lets you specify a value for the space between paragraphs that have the same style, which will only be used when two consecutive paragraphs have the same paragraph style. When the paragraph style is different, the existing value for Space before and / or Space after will be used. It seems like a play on words but I hope I explained well. No? Adobe font more accessible

Maurizio, you’re already back in Italy: did you have all this rush to go back for the Brand Design Tour?

Well yes, together with the Pirates we are organizing a unique event of its kind . Two days of training focused exclusively on the Brand Design. We will analyze all the fundamental aspects that lead to the design of a good brand and we will see how the principles of design are applied to this discipline. Participants will then have a targeted view as well as valuable practical advice. In recent years, Brand Design is regaining that prestige and that important role it had in the past in the creative world and understanding how it works is essential for anyone who wants to specialize in this field.

 

Let us know a little, tell us what you do, where you came from, where you live.

Today I deal exclusively with communication related to brands, so I’m not a creative that, according to the all-Italian vision, takes care of a bit of everything. Since the end of my studies I decided that specializing in a specific branch of graphic design would be the key to my professional career. I immediately loved branding and I continued to study and deepen its every mechanism. Today I live in London, a place that is a constant stimulus for my profession.

 

So, get dressed in London: do you miss Italy? What if you miss more?

In fact, after having participated as a speaker at the last edition of the Creative Pro Show and the visibility it has achieved, I often come back to Italy for training events. So no, I do not miss it. When I want to see friends and relatives, I need a two-hour flight to be with them. I take the job with me, it’s the beauty of this profession. All I need is a computer and an internet connection to be in touch with my clients from anywhere in the world.

From the beginning of my career I tried to compare myself with the international scene, overcoming what could be a territorial limit. So I would not make a speech related to a specific country or taste, not for my discipline at least. The purpose of a good brand is that it must “work”, its meaning must exceed the limit of the signifier tied to a given place. The aim of a good Brand designer is to choose the right signs to communicate it. That said, I can say that I have seen bad brands and well-designed brands both in Italy and in the UK.

 

I already know how it happened but others do not: how did you find yourself in the pirates? Why are we here that we are organizing half the world?

I met the Pirates for the first time at the latest Creative Pro Show. Immediately I was struck by the strength and energy of this group of creatives and their union. In those two days I have often been at their stand and I have been able to speak several times with some of them. Almost immediately the desire to work was born, we only had to find the right project.

 

And then, what happened?

Over the months I have known Patrizia Anna Coccia better, founder of the Pirates and I have confronted her several times with her about the creative sector of our country. I was looking for a person who would follow my training projects in Italy and I had long the idea of ​​organizing a specific workshop on branding. I then proposed to take care of the organization. At that time even Patrizia was thinking about an event entitled “The pirates”, so it came very natural to combine the two things.

 

How come you love brand design so much, what’s more than some other job?

I love the idea of ​​designing something that will last over time, something not temporary, the image that will accompany a company or a product for several years. And I love doing it in that phase when I’m not on the market yet. For this reason, the way to approach the project is different from the rest of graphic design. We must always have an eye on the future and be able to better express the values ​​of a company through a few graphic signs. A continuous challenge that never lets me get bored.

 

Why is it good and right to come to your brand design workshop? What’s more than the others?

I do not know what others have, I know what ours will have . I will bring my experience of creative specializing in branding, my freelance experience and my experience as a self promoter. We will analyze the mistakes that are often made when approaching this discipline, share practical advice, tricks and secrets and we will tackle the creative path that leads to the creation of a good brand. Now is the moment of despair, of mourning, of tears, of peace. And we pirates want to start from here, avoiding to yield to the easy temptation of the game of hatred, fear, terror, continuing to do our job. And we want to talk about this today.

Brand, how it is built.

Everything starts from a post on Twitter , where that great Bansky tweety tweets a post that combines two universally recognized signs merging them into one, which in my opinion will make people talk about themselves. It is a circle, with indistinct edges, with inside a stylized Eiffel Tower with a “leg” more than those we are used to seeing. At first glance this appears, but immediately we begin to think about something else. The upper part of the tower breaks the circular composition in a brilliant way “going out” for a short distance above the circle and thus forming a vertical line that we begin to recognize as familiar. Also the two curved lines, which constitute the tower’s arcinoto profile, are added to form two shorter diagonal elements. For an overall vision we realize that the new symbol is the union of two universally recognized: the symbol of peace and the Eiffel Tower, a symbol of Paris.

Composition and history

The composition in its simplicity is brilliant. When you think of France, you think about her, it’s almost inevitable. Few perhaps know that the Eiffel engineer who designed it was the same designer who conceived the internal structure of the Statue of Liberty.

Expressive and evocative strength.

The expressive power of the brand is disruptive. The tract recalls Picasso in its evolution, and partly recalls the evocative lines of the preparatory cartoons of Guernica. The shape of the tower is all, even if stylized. The stroke of genius, in my opinion, is the upper part of the tower that comes out shortly from the composition, creating the element of contrast with the circular composition. All told with a stroke that recalls the strength of metropolitan graffiti and the expressiveness of the Lascaux caves graffiti.

The creator of the brand

At first the symbol “Peace For Paris” is attributed to Bansky. A few hours later, the true creator came to light: a French artist, Jean Julien, on whose site we now find the logo initially tweeted by Bansky . Jean Julien creates an operation as simple as it is genial in his expressive prorompence. As a graphic expert, he merges two elements together in these moments that are very much felt by the French and, I believe rightly, all over the world: the love for peace, the one with the capital “P”, the one that sang John Lennon in Imagine. San Francesco, by Gandhi, and love for France, for Paris, a proud and wounded land.
